McQuiston and The Great War
With the centenary of the Armistice of the First World War on 11 November 2018 the congregation wanted to mark that occasion in a very special way. We also uncovered the Order of Service for the unveiling of the War Memorial Tablet and Roll of Honour on 30 January 1921. It is recorded that 358 men enrolled for King and Country and sadly 69 of them were either killed in action or died on active service during the Great War.
Whilst the names of the men who died were read at the service in 1921 they have never been read in church since. This changed in 2018 as their name, rank and regiment were read by members of the congregation.
We wanted to discover some further details of those men and that can be access below. For specific information please click on the photograph of each soldier/sailor, You will note that some of the details may be limited and if you can provide further information on any of those men please contact the church website.
We also recognise those men who were specifically decorated during the war. (See Medal Roll of Honour below)
In collating this information thanks are extended to Bobby Cosgrove, David Goble, Nigel Henderson, John Shivers and Craig Wootton. We also acknowledge records gleaned from the 1901 and 1911 census, British Army WW1 Medal Roll Index Cards, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Find a grave, Find my past, the Presbyterian Historical Society and the War Museum, Belfast.
Below is a copy of the Order of Service from 11 November 2018 and a Visual Record of the 358 men who served.
Please take a few moments to review these details. We trust you will find this informative.
Should you have any additional information on these men please contact the church website.

McQuiston Memorial Roll of Honour, The Great War 1914 - 1918
Presbyterian Roll Of Honour
The Roll of Honour is a hard bound book stored in Church House, Belfast and contains over 24,000 names of the men and women from a Presbyterian background who served during the Great War.
For various reasons it is far from complete as many congregations made no returns whilst others were late in recording details of congregational members who served.
Here are the pages relating to McQuiston Memorial.
