Lester Jackson Service Number 17937 Sergeant Royal Irish Rifles 2nd Battalion
Lester was born in 1987 of parents Jonathan and Margaret L Jackson. Initially the family lived at 78 Kimberley Street, Belfast (1901 census) before moving to 9 Cavehill Road, Belfast by the 1911 census. The family had 3 children namely Lester, Violet and Harold. Mr Jackson was recorded as being a clerk in a linen warehouse in 1911.
Lester embarked for France on 5 October 1915 and was killed in action on 6 September 1918. He is buried at the Ploegsteert Memorial Cemetery, near Hainaut, Belgium.
Lester’s mother Margaret received a War Gratuity of £22.
Lester’s name is included on the Presbyterian Roll of Honour.
