James Johnston    Service Number 12960 Rifleman Royal Irish Rifles 8th Battalion ​ ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

James was born in Carrickavea, Co. Down and lived with his wife Mary at 24 Canton Street, Belfast.
 
James embarked for France on 4 October 1915 and was killed in action on 2 July 1916.  His name is recorded on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
 
James’ widow Mary received a War Gratuity of £8.
 
James’ name is included on the Presbyterian Roll of Honour.
