William was born in 1882 and was a painter before the war. He married Eliza Jane Robinson in Belmont Presbyterian on 25 August 1906. They had 5 children – William Norman, Minnie, James McDonald, John and Agnes. The family lived at 14 Kenbaan Street, Beersbridge Road, Belfast.
William enlisted on 30 November 1914 in Belfast and embarked for France on 25 November 1915. He was killed in action on 16 August 1917 in Belgium and is buried at Bedford House Cemetery, near Zillebeke, near Ypres in Belgium.
His wife Eliza received a War Gratuity of £12 and 10shillings.
William’s name is included on the Presbyterian Roll of Honour.
