Joseph Smyth Mayberry Service Number 5891 Private Australian Infantry 27th Battalion
Joseph was born in Lasheegan. According to the 1911 census Mr. Mayberry was deceased but his wife Catherine and 7 children were living at 43 Castlereagh Road, Belfast. The children were Margaret Emma, Sarah Jane, Mary Ann, Catherine, Robert Alexander, Joseph Smyth and Lavina Moon. By 1916 the family had moved to 184 Albertbridge Road, Belfast.
Joseph enlisted in Perth, Western Australia on 26 May 1916. The Battalion was dispatched to France via England. Joseph was killed in action on 4 October 1917 and is remembered at Ypres (Menin Gate), Belgium.
Joseph’s name is included on the Presbyterian Roll of Honour.
