John Ground        Service Number 46371 Corporal Royal Field Artillery, 22nd Battalion ​ ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

​John was born on 5 January 1881 in Armagh of parents Thomas and Eliza Ground (nee McMillan).  They had 5 children namely Mary G, Caroline, John, Alfred William and Frederick F.  Tom served as a Private in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and was discharged on 16 October 1897.
 
The family moved to 76 Portallo Street, Belfast before 1901.
 
John married Annie Julia Jephson, of High Street, Wickford in 1871 in St. Pauls’ Dublin.
 
The 1911 census records John as serving at Roberts Heights, Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa.  He then proceeded to France in October 1914 and died on 31 October 1917 aged 36 years.  He is buried at Wickford (St. Catherine) Churchyard, Essex, England.
 
John’s name is included on the Presbyterian Roll of Honour.
