John Mills Service Number 17/1810 Rifleman Royal Irish Rifles 10th Battalion
John was born in Ballygowan in 1897 of parents Robert John and Martha Mills. According to the 1911 census they had 8 living children including Lizzie, Martha, William, John, Sarah Jane, Bob and Samuel M. It is assumed an older child was no longer living at home. Sometime later the family moved to 91 Ardenvohr Street, Belfast.
John enlisted in November 1915 and embarked to France. He was killed in action on 1 July 1916 and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
Mr. Mills received a War Gratuity of £3.
