William James Keith Service Number 15057 Sergeant Royal Irish Rifles 14th Battalion
William was born on 27 September 1889 in Belfast of parents William James and Maria Keith. The family lived at 1 Pottinger Street, Belfast. Mr Keith was recorded as being a baker in the 1911 census. They had 5 children namely William James, Thomas, May, Samuel and Winnie. In 1911 William was recorded as being an iron moulder.
William enlisted on 12 September 1914 and he embarked for France on 6 October 1915. He died on 15 March 1918. His death is not recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as his death was not caused by his military service.
William’s family received a War Gratuity of £14.
William’s name is included on the Presbyterian Roll of Honour.
