Psalm 3 vs 3 - 6

But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. 4 I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain. 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. 6 I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.

Psalm 3 is the appeal of David to God when he fled from Absolom his son who rebelled and attempted to seize the kingdom. Once again despite appearances and the fact that many had written David off, God had not forsaken him. David’s confidence in God’s deliverance and protection is encapsulated in the above verses. The verses scarcely need any explanation, day or night, whether his assailants be many or few he is secure because his hope and his deliverance is in the Lord.

We need to learn the same truth and in danger to rest secure in Christ.  Admittedly that’s hard for us at times but the assurance is far from imaginary or vain.  Jesus answering his critics said this of his followers “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. “ (John 10:27-28). Whatever your fears now or in the future on this you can depend. You can lie down and rest secure in the knowledge that no-one and nothing can harm you ultimately for you are held in Jesus hand.
