As a result of the initiative of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (June 1994) a Peace Agent was appointed from within the congregation to represent McQuiston Church. The outworking of the Peace Vocation– the basis of the work of peace and reconciliation – has been developed over the years by the Peace and Peacemaking Action Team (a sub-committee of Session). The Action Team seeks to bring before the congregation the meaning of the gospel requirement to ‘work for peace and the things that make for peace’. Each week, in the Church bulletin, there is a Peace Thought and/or Peace Prayer. Each quarter, an article is included in the Church magazine which seeks to challenge and encourage members regarding peace, reconciliation, ethnic group acceptance, cultural diversity, and to develop the congregation in the outworking of Christ’s teaching (at home, work, in school, church, in the neighbourhood and wider community). In January and June/July each year the Action Team organises a Peace Service and a 12 hour Day of Prayer for our land, our Province and the wider world. Members from Canton Street Mission share in our Days of Prayer. Contacts are made with other churches and individuals in the neighbourhood, and events attended, in an effort to extend the hand of friendship in the wider community. Please pray for the continuing work of peace and reconciliation in our land. |
